Training
The members
of the Milford Fire Department train on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of each
month for company training. They also meet on the 3rd Monday and 4th Tuesday of
the month for Rescue Training. They are required to attend 9 company drills and
9 rescue drills a year. Company drills are designed to keep their firefighting
skills sharp, they consist of hose line evolutions, ladder evolutions, Search
and Rescue evolutions and R.I.T. (Rapid Intervention Team). Rescue drills are
more of specialized training such as Vehicle Extrication, Heights Rescue,
Confined Space Rescue, Ice Rescue and Hazardous Materials Decontamination
Training.
Every member of the Milford Fire Department is required to obtain their Firefighter 1 certification within one year of employment. Firefighter 1 is approximately 192 hours and six months of classes. They are also required to become rescue certified within two years of employment.
